With Unnatural #6, we're officially in the second half of the series. Leslie Blair continues to be one of the most intriguing new characters in the past decade and in this issue we get some real insight into what's going on with her.
Leslie is apparently the reincarnation of one of the world's saviors but she is also in danger of being possessed by the spirit that would rule it. These two aspects are at odds with each other.
Leslie at times appears to be weak but also has flashes of strength that manifest's when it counts. The issue does a great of bringing the background story into focus which also makes the overall narrative stronger with each passing issue.
The reader is also given more insight into the villain plot. The motives of our antagonists aren't totally revealed but we walk out of the issue with more information than we had to go on going in. The issue also ends on another cliffhanger. I Absolutely love this story and can't wait to see where the next issue takes us. We may have a classic on our hands once the narrative is complete.
The issue isn't perfect this time around. Whenever Leslie and the co-protagonist, Khal (Our Wolf) have a scene together the dialogue becomes really melodramatic to the point where it breaks the immersion within the comic.
Also, at this point in the series we're pretty well versed with Leslie's dreams and the erotic nature of them. It seems like the sex and nudity found in this issue is somewhat unnecessary. I don't mind any of it but I'm not sure how it adds to the comic. It seems like we're getting nudity now for the sake of it.
Outside of the gripes Unnatural remains one of the top series on my pull list and with another great cliffhanger, I Imagine we're in for another awesome follow-up next month.
